The big picture: With AI fully integrated into KPMG Clara, our global smart audit platform, we can unlock new insights, increase productivity and sustain quality while delivering our people and our clients a better experience.

We continue to re-imagine our audit approach and risk assessment by pairing AI-powered tools and systems with human judgment to challenge assumptions and increase trust.

Using Audit Chat to deliver quality and increase productivity: While we have been using AI in our audits for years, including with KPMG Clara – transaction scoring, the rollout of ChatGPT and generative AI has ushered in an exciting new era. After engaging more than 500 of our partners and professionals over the summer in a pilot for a new generative AI tool, we released KPMG Audit Chat to our entire practice this past fall. We fully-loaded our proprietary KPMG documents into this secure environment, allowing us to further enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the work we’re doing.

Within the first 60 days of launching, our people engaged in nearly 110,000 conversations. And today, nearly everyone across our practice (more than 8,500 of people) are regularly using our library of 100 plus prompts, leveraging KPMG’s audit methodology to enhance audit performance, documentation, and review across a variety of audit tasks. Our expectation, which our clients also have for us, is that AI will help drive quality. Audit Chat is another piece of our strategy to transform the audit:

  • Having the right partners today: Our alliances with MindBridge and Microsoft mean that we can be at the forefront of innovation while ensuring we have the resources and foundation necessary to deploy AI responsibly.
  • Innovation on the horizon: We’re looking at the future and how we will build on the momentum we have with AI Transaction Scoring, Audit Chat with access to new tools like Microsoft Copilot that will enable us to access smart virtual assistants that leverage vast scopes of digitized audit and accounting knowledge to support everyday work, analyze data, apply AI and Machine Learning to enhance risk assessment in new ways across sectors and accounting principles. Additionally, Co-Pilot will use KPMG’s secure Azure Cloud across global member firms to boost productivity and drive quality.
  • Evolving Chat and Gen AI Capabilities: Already, our people are leveraging Audit Chat as a AI-powered audit assistant. Soon, we’ll be able to leverage outputs from transaction scoring, data mapping and integration to provide more and detailed insights within Gen AI.

The bottom line: At the speed at which AI models are evolving, trust and transparency – through responsible design, development, and deployment, is critical. KPMG Trusted AI is our commitment to helping AI reach its potential with human judgement and innovation. Moreover, our partners are helping us ensure this approach is consistent across technology platforms. We’re using this to define the resources needed to lay the foundation for deployment.
