Brazil requests WTO dispute consultations over U.S. tariff measures
10% duty on all Brazilian products and an additional 40% duty on certain products
The World Trade Organization (WTO) today circulated Brazil's request for dispute consultations with the United States regarding U.S. tariff measures that impose a 10% duty on all Brazilian products and an additional 40% duty on certain products of Brazilian origin (read TradeNewsFlash).
According to today’s WTO release, Brazil contends that these measures violate U.S. obligations under provisions of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) 1994 and the Dispute Settlement Understanding (DSU). Specifically, Brazil argues that the United States is seeking redress through tariff measures rather than adhering to the rules and procedures outlined in the DSU.
