U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) today released guidance on applying a 50% Section 232 ad valorem duty on imports of semi-finished copper products and intensive copper derivative products, following the presidential proclamation issued yesterday (read TradeNewsFlash).

The CBP guidance—CSMS # 65794272—provides detailed instructions for importers, brokers, and filers on submitting entries to CBP for copper products under headings 9903.78.01 and 9903.78.02 of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS). The 50% duty applies to the copper content of the products, while a 0% duty applies to the non-copper content and goods containing no copper.
