White House announces increase in tariffs on copper to 50%
Increased tariffs effective August 1, 2025
The White House today released a proclamation signed by President Trump increasing tariffs on imports of semi-finished copper products (such as copper pipes, wires, rods, sheets, and tubes) and copper-intensive derivative products (such as pipe fittings, cables, connectors, and electrical components) to 50%.
The increased tariffs—imposed under the authority of Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962—become effective August 1, 2025. Read the White House fact sheet
The proclamation further states that the Secretary shall, within 90 days, establish a process for including additional derivative copper articles within the scope of the increased tariffs.
