KPMG LLP Takes Minority Stake in Deepfake Detection Leader Reality Defender

Investment supports innovation in deepfake detection and helps organizations strengthen trust across digital interactions

September 10, 2026

NEW YORK, September 10, 2026 - KPMG LLP, the U.S. audit, tax and advisory firm, today announced a minority equity investment in Reality Defender, a leading deepfake detection platform that helps organizations identify and prevent AI-generated impersonation, fraud and synthetic media threats.

As deepfake content proliferates, organizations need new ways to verify authenticity. This investment expands the firm’s ability to help clients address a growing category of AI-enabled risk by incorporating deepfake detection capabilities into its cyber and fraud prevention practices.

"For decades, people trusted what they could see and hear. That's no longer enough," said Matthew P. Miller, Global Financial Services Lead for Cyber and Technology Risk at KPMG LLP. "Organizations need a detection layer that stops synthetic media. We're excited to bring these capabilities to clients as they work to stay ahead of emerging threats."

Reality Defender delivers multimodal deepfake detection capabilities that integrate directly into communications platforms, business applications and enterprise workflows. Its technology evaluates the authenticity of voice, video, in real time, helping organizations respond more quickly to potential impersonation attempts and fraud.

"AI is changing how organizations operate and how attackers exploit trust," said Ben Colman, Co-Founder and CEO of Reality Defender. "For years, people treated a familiar voice or face as proof of identity. Today, highly convincing synthetic media challenges that assumption. Together with KPMG, we can help organizations strengthen defenses against AI-enabled fraud while preserving trust in the digital interactions that power modern business."

The investment builds on KPMG's broader commitment to helping clients capture the value of AI while managing risk through the firm’s cyber, risk, and transformation practice. It reflects the growing importance of trust infrastructure as AI reshapes how organizations communicate, transact and make decisions.
