Consumers get thrifty for summer spend

KPMG surveyed over 1,000 consumers across the U.S. to learn about their expected spending habits for the summer, as well as shifts in buying behaviors across categories and channels. In addition, we asked respondents about the impact of inflation, their travel plans for the summer, and health and wellness.

 

 

 

Consumers are feeling an ongoing inflation strain

Consumers have pulled back their discretionary spend by 3%, while prioritizing their essential spend by the same margin. 

Strong demand for summer travel

While summer travel is still on the rise, men, millennials, and high income earners are leading the charge.

Demographic differences emerge

More men than women plan summer travel

Millennials are most likely to travel than other generations

+12%

High income groups ($100k+) are most likely to travel

Consumers are more health conscious

Nearly half of all consumers say their interest in health and wellness have increased over the last few years.
