Future of SOX: Real world insights

Andy Powell is the VP, Assistant Controller, SOX Advisory at Capital One Financial Corporation. Andy has been at Capital One Financial Corporation for over 12 years where he started as a Lead Financial Controls Manager. He has extensive experience performing financial statement audits, attestation engagements, performance audits, compliance audits, and internal control audits for: procure-to-pay, accounts receivable, point of sale, inventory, contracting, capital planning and construction, human resources, investing, financing, and budget control.

Andy received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Radford University and MBA in Finance from Virginia Commonwealth University – School of Business.

Mary-Lee Stillwell is the Chief Accounting Officer at Verizon Communications Inc. Prior to being Chief Accounting Officer at Verizon, she was Vice President – Accounting & External Reporting. She is an experienced leader with a demonstrated history of working in the energy industry and various other industries while working in public accounting. She is a strong accounting professional skilled in SEC reporting, Mergers & Acquisitions, Consolidation, Continuous Process Improvement, Auditing and Internal Controls.

Mary-Lee received her Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting from the University of Houston. 

Shannon Urban is Vice President, Chief Audit Executive with Hasbro, Inc. She holds certifications in Risk Management Assurance and Internal Audit from The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). She has been with Hasbro for 4.5 years leading the Internal Audit and SOX Compliance teams, as well as the company’s Enterprise Risk Assessment.

Prior to her time with Hasbro, She worked with large organizations including Ernst & Young, Fidelity Investments, State Street and Citizens Financial Group leading internal audit and controls teams.

Shannon received her M.B.A. with focus on International Business from Bryant University and, her B.A. in International Relations and Japanese Studies from Boston University.

A long-time volunteer leader with the IIA, Shannon has led Professional Guidance development and served as President of the Greater-Boston Chapter, Chair of the North American Board, and Executive Committee Member of the Global Board. Her most impactful contribution to the profession was the redesign of the Three Lines Model.
