Mexico: Amendments to general rules under anti-money laundering law
Changes implement July 2025 reform of anti-money laundering law.
The Ministry of Finance and Public Credit on August 7, 2026, published amendments to the General Rules of the Federal Law for the Prevention and Identification of Operations with Resources of Illicit Proceeds (LFPIORPI).
The changes implement the July 2025 reform of the LFPIORPI, and the related March 2026 regulations, which seek to strengthen a risk-based approach, the identification of the controlling beneficiary, the use of technological tools, as well as the professionalization, training, and internal control of the obligated subjects.
The amended rules generally become effective November 30, 2026, but some aspects of the rules (e.g., the Internal Policies Manual and Risk Methodology) become effective March 1, 2027.
