United States adjusts Section 232 tariffs for imports of aluminum, steel, and copper
Temporary tariff modifications through 2027
President Trump on June 1, 2026, signed a proclamation adjusting aluminum, steel, and copper tariffs under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 to address national security threats and bolster domestic manufacturing.
According to a White House release, the new proclamation temporarily adjusts tariffs on agricultural equipment, such as combines and harvesters, from 25% to 15%. It also expands the existing category of industrial equipment subject to a 15% tariff to include mobile industrial equipment, such as bulldozers and forklifts, when imported from trade deal countries that are entitled to such treatment.
Foreign companies may qualify for a 10% duty rate if their capital equipment includes at least 85% by weight of U.S. melted and poured steel or smelted and cast aluminum.
The tariff modifications are temporary and are scheduled to remain in effect until December 31, 2027.
