Stamp duty relief for victims of domestic violence and downsizing seniors

june 5, 2026

The South Australian budget 2026-2027 was delivered on June 4, 2026. No new taxes were introduced, but the budget included two targeted stamp duty relief initiatives, which had been circulated in previous media announcements.

  • Ex gratia relief for victims of family, domestic, or sexual violence: Eligible applicants may receive ex gratia relief equivalent to full stamp duty relief on the purchase of a new or established home, or the purchase of vacant land for construction of a new home, when the applicant vacated a home due to family, domestic, or sexual violence experienced by them or their child (for contracts entered into on or after June 4, 2026).
  • Downsizing duty relief: Eligible applicants aged 60 years or over who sell their eligible principal place of residence to downsize to a replacement property with a smaller land size may be eligible for relief (for eligible contracts entered into on or after March 25, 2026).
