New Zealand: Consultations on GST issues
Including when intermediaries or brokers involved in financial products may make exempt GST supplies
Inland Revenue on May 21, 2026, opened consultation on PUB00463, a draft interpretation statement explaining when intermediaries or brokers involved in financial products make exempt GST supplies by arranging financial services rather than advising on them. The draft explains the meaning of “arranging,” GST treatment for intermediary and broker activities, and interaction with Interpretation Statement IS0052 on financial planning fees. Comments are due by July 02, 2026.
In addition, Inland Revenue issued an officials’ issues paper on May 22, 2026, seeking public submissions on current GST issues when legislation may not reflect policy intent or when technical changes could improve system operation. Comments are due by June 29, 2026.
