Australia: Tax measures in budget 2026-2027 (Queensland)

The Queensland government on June 23, 2026, announced several tax-related measures as part of the 2026-2027 budget, while maintaining a "no new or increased taxes" approach.

Key tax measures include:

  • Amendments to the Duties Act 2001 would restrict eligibility for transfer duty home concessions to Australian citizens, permanent residents, and specified foreign retirees starting August 1, 2026.
  • The First Home Owner Grant would be increased from AU$15,000 to AU$30,000, effective July 1, 2026.
  • An extension of the 50% payroll tax rebate would be available for wages paid to apprentices and trainees for an additional 12 months, until June 30, 2027.
  • The Queensland Revenue Office would receive increased resources for compliance and debt recovery.
