United States establishes process to impose tariffs on countries that trade with Iran
Additional ad valorem duty on imports from countries that directly or indirectly acquire any goods or services from Iran
President Trump signed an executive order establishing a process for the United States to impose tariffs on countries that purchase, import, or otherwise acquire goods or services from Iran, effective February 7, 2026.
According to a White House release, the president may modify the order if circumstances change, and the order authorizes the issuance of rules and guidance to implement the tariff system and related measures.
The executive order is intended to counter Iran’s pursuit of nuclear capabilities, support for terrorism, ballistic missile development, and regional destabilization, which are described as threats to the United States, its allies, and interests.
