President Trump on February 3, 2026, signed into law legislation reauthorizing the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), extending the trade preference program through December 31, 2026, with retroactive effect to September 30, 2025.
The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) will coordinate with relevant agencies to implement modifications to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) resulting from the AGOA reauthorization.
According to a USTR release, the AGOA provides eligible sub-Saharan African countries with duty-free access to the United States market for more than 1,800 products, supplementing the over 5,000 products covered under the Generalized System of Preferences program.
