The White House on January 29, 2026, announced that President Trump has signed an executive order establishing a tariff system targeting countries that provide oil to Cuba.

According to a White House fact sheet, the executive order authorizes the imposition of additional tariffs on imports from countries that directly or indirectly supply oil to Cuba. The Secretary of State and Secretary of Commerce are authorized to take necessary actions, including issuing rules and guidance, to implement the tariff system. The order also allows for modifications if Cuba or affected countries take steps to align with U.S. national security and foreign policy objectives.
