U.S. CBP modifies withhold release order on certain palm oil products from Malaysia
United States will allow entry of palm oil products from a Malaysian company after remediation of forced labor practices.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) today announced the modification of the withhold release order (WRO) issued on September 30, 2020, against palm oil and palm oil products produced in Malaysia by a certain agribusiness and food company. The modification follows the remediation of forced labor practices in the production processes, allowing compliant products to enter the United States.
Therefore, as of January 15, 2026, the United States will no longer detain at ports of entry palm oil and palm oil products produced by the Malaysian company and, effective immediately, will allow palm oil and palm oil products produced by the Malaysian company to enter the United States.
According to today’s CBP release, the original WRO was based on evidence that working conditions in the production process exposed workers to forced labor indicators as defined by the International Labour Organization. Since then, corrective actions have been taken to address these issues. CBP's modification reflects the agency's commitment to ensuring fair and accountable supply chains.
