The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the U.S. Department of Commerce today released an interim final rule establishing the process for including additional automobile parts articles within the scope of tariffs imposed under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, as directed by Proclamation 10908 (read TradeNewsFlash).

The process allows domestic producers of automobiles or automobile parts, or industry associations representing such producers, to submit requests to include additional automobile parts articles for passenger vehicles and light trucks under the Section 232 tariffs. Submission windows for inclusion requests will open four times annually, beginning with the first window on October 1, 2025.

The interim final rule also outlines procedures for submitting business confidential information and provides guidance on the review, public comment, and decision phases.

The rule is effective upon publication in the Federal Register (which is scheduled to be September 17, 2025), and public comments may be submitted within 45 days of publication.
