IRS announces tax relief for taxpayers affected by storms in West Virginia
Filing deadline extended to February 2, 2026
The IRS has announced tax relief for individuals and businesses in parts of West Virginia affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding, landslides, and mudslides that began on June 14, 2025.
According to the IRS release—WV-2025-04 (August 8, 2025)—taxpayers in Marion and Ohio counties now have until February 2, 2026, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. This relief follows a disaster declaration issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The extended February 2, 2026, filing deadline applies to:
- Any individual, business or tax-exempt organization that has a valid extension to file their 2024 return due to run out on October 15, 2025
- Quarterly estimated income tax payments normally due on June 16, September 15, 2025, and January 15, 2026
- Quarterly payroll and excise tax returns normally due on July 31, October 31, 2025, and January 31, 2026
- Calendar-year partnerships and S corporations whose 2024 extensions run out on September 15, 2025
- Calendar-year corporations whose 2024 extensions run out on October 15, 2025
- Calendar-year tax exempt organizations whose extensions run out on November 17, 2025
