White House issues executive order extending suspension of “reciprocal tariffs” to August 1, 2025
Certain countries will be subject to new reciprocal tariff rates beginning August 1
The White House on July 7, 2025, posted on its website an executive order extending until August 1, 2025, the suspension pursuant to Executive Order (EO) 14266 (dated April 9, 2025) of certain additional ad valorem tariffs (“reciprocal tariffs”) for products from various trading partners originally imposed under EO 14257 (dated April 2, 2025).
The reciprocal tariffs were initially suspended under EO 14266 until July 9, 2025, except with respect to China, in response to their willingness to address U.S. national and economic security concerns. Read TradeNewsFlash
Accordingly to the related White House fact sheet (July 7, 2025), President Trump also sent letters to the following countries explaining that, starting August 1, 2025, they will be subject to new reciprocal tariff rates designed to make the terms of bilateral trade relationships more reciprocal over time and to address the national emergency caused by the U.S. trade deficit:
- Bangladesh (35%)
- Bosnia and Herzegovina (30%)
- Cambodia (36%)
- Indonesia (32%)
- Japan (25%)
- Kazakhstan (25%)
- Korea (25%)
- Laos (40%)
- Malaysia (25%)
- Myanmar (40%)
- Serbia (35%)
- South Africa (30%)
- Thailand (36%)
- Tunisia (25%)
These rates are in some cases higher, and in other cases lower, than the rates originally announced in EO 14257. The White House stated that President Trump may send more letters in the coming days and weeks.
