USTR launches Section 301 investigation into Brazil’s trade practices
Investigation will assess whether trading practices are unreasonable or discriminatory and burden U.S. commerce
The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) yesterday announced the initiation of a Section 301 investigation into Brazil's trade practices under the Trade Act of 1974.
The USTR release (July 15, 2025) explains that the investigation will assess whether the following trading practices are unreasonable or discriminatory and burden U.S. commerce:
- Digital trade and electronic payment services
- Unfair, preferential tariffs
- Anti-corruption enforcement
- Intellectual property protection
- Ethanol market access
- Illegal deforestation
