The White House on June 3, 2025, announced that President Trump signed a proclamation to increase tariffs on steel and aluminum imports to 50%.

The increased tariffs—imposed under the authority of Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962—become effective June 4, 2025. The tariffs apply to steel and aluminum contents of imported products, while non-steel and non-aluminum contents will be subject to other tariffs. Read the White House fact sheet

The proclamation outlines the increased tariffs and modifications to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), and mandates strict compliance with reporting requirements for steel and aluminum content.

Imports from the United Kingdom will remain at 25% until potential adjustments on July 9, 2025, under the U.S.-UK Economic Prosperity Deal.

CBP guidance

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on June 3, 2025, released the following updated guidance following the amendment of Executive Order 14289 by the proclamation "Adjusting Imports of Aluminum and Steel into the United States."
