Australia: Tax measures to promote cost of living relief and housing affordability in 2025-2026 budget (Western Australia)

No new taxes introduced

The Western Australia budget 2025-2026 was delivered on May 19, 2025. No new taxes were introduced but the budget included the following measures to promote cost of living relief and housing affordability:

  • Increase in land tax exemption from 50% to 75% for build-to-rent (BTR) developments that become operational between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2028
  • Extension of stamp duty concession for “off-the-plan” dwellings for eligible transactions entered into between March 21, 2025, and June 30, 2026, and increase in lower and upper property price thresholds to $750,000* and $850,000, respectively
  • Increase in property value thresholds for first homeowner transfer duty concession for transactions entered into on or after March 21, 2025, for established properties
