June 2, 2025

The Tasmanian budget 2025-2026, delivered May 29, 2025, contained no new taxes nor any changes to taxes. Three key budget initiatives include:

  • Expanding access to health care:  To improve healthcare access, the government says it is dedicated to building new mental health precincts and ambulance stations, upgrading public hospitals, and continuing its major recruitment drive for healthcare workers.
  • Cost of living: To alleviate cost of living pressures, the budget includes a $60* credit for household energy bills and reduces public transport fares by 50% for students and regional routes.
  • Housing: The budget continues the prior initiative (from the 2024-2025 budget) of the elimination of stamp duty for first home buyers acquiring properties up to $750,000, offering potential savings of up to $28,935.

Additionally, the budget continues the 'MyHome Shared Equity Program', now with higher income thresholds.
