U.S. BIS requests public comments on aircraft import investigation

Investigation initiated under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962

The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the U.S. Department of Commerce today released a notice requesting comments on the Section 232 national security investigation of imports of commercial aircraft and jet engines and parts for commercial aircraft and jet engines. The notice identifies issues on which Commerce is especially interested in obtaining the public’s views.

Comments are due 21 days after the notice is published in the Federal Register, which is scheduled to be May 13, 2025.

Background

The Secretary of Commerce on May 1, 2025, initiated an investigation to determine the effects on the national security of imports of commercial aircraft and jet engines, and parts for commercial aircraft and jet engines. This investigation has been initiated under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962.
