United States increases tariffs on Chinese imports
Response to China's 34% tariff on U.S. goods
The White House on April 8, 2025, posted on its website an executive order amending the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) in response to China's 34% tariff on U.S. goods, effective April 10, 2025.
In response to China's tariffs, the executive order mandates an increase in tariffs on Chinese imports. Effective April 9, 2025, the tariff rate under heading 9903.01.63 of the HTSUS will rise from 34% to 84%. Additionally, the ad valorem rate of duty on low-value imports will increase from 30% to 90%, with postal item duties rising in May and June 2025.
Update: President Trump posted on social media that the tariffs on imports from China will be raised to 125%, effective immediately.
