EU member states approve trade countermeasures against United States
Duties will begin to be collected on April 15, 2025.
The European Commission (EC) today announced that EU member states have voted in favor of its proposal to introduce trade countermeasures against the United States following U.S. imposition of tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from the EU. Read TradeNewsFlash
According to the EC release (April 9, 2025):
- The countermeasures will take effect once the EC’s internal procedures are completed and the implementing act is published.
- Duties will begin to be collected on April 15, 2025.
- The countermeasures can be suspended if the United States agrees to a fair negotiated outcome.
