Canada: Relief for businesses affected by tariffs

Import tariff relief for automakers, and six-month relief for certain goods imported from the United States

The Department of Finance Canada on April 15, 2025, announced new support measures for Canadian businesses affected by U.S. and Canadian tariffs.

The measures include import tariff relief for automakers under a performance-based remission framework, and temporary six-month relief for certain goods imported from the United States that are used:

  • In Canadian manufacturing, processing, and food and beverage packaging
  • To support public health, health care, public safety, and national security objectives

Additionally, large Canadian businesses can apply for financing support through the new Large Enterprise Tariff Loan Facility.
