U.S. BIS modifies HTSUS to conform with 25% tariffs on aluminum and steel imports
Effective March 12, 2025
The U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the Department of Commerce today released two notices that modify the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) to reflect changes made by the presidential proclamations imposing 25% tariffs on aluminum and steel imports into the United States, effective March 12, 2025. The duties set out in the annex of each document are effective with respect to certain products that are entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, on or after March 12, 2025.
Addition of aluminum derivatives beer and empty aluminum cans
BIS on April 2, 2025, released a notice that revises Annex 1 of the HTSUS to include two additional aluminum derivative products: beer and empty aluminum cans. These changes are effective for products entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, on or after April 4, 2025.
