Australia seeks exemption from U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum, will not impose reciprocal tariffs

The Prime Minister of Australia on March 12, 2025, announced that the government is seeking an exemption from the U.S. tariffs on Australian steel and aluminum.

According to the Prime Minister’s media statement (March 12, 2025), Australia will not impose reciprocal tariffs on the United States. The government continues to work for a different outcome while discussions with the Trump Administration are ongoing. In addition, the government has been engaging directly with the Australian steel and aluminum industry and will continue working with them.
