Extension for an additional 24 months, until February 21, 2027
U.S. Customs and Border Protection today released a general notice announcing an extension of the Vessel Entrance and Clearance Automation Test for an additional 24 months, until February 21, 2027.
The test, initially launched on February 21, 2023, allows participants to electronically submit vessel entry and clearance data through the Vessel Entrance and Clearance System (VECS), replacing the need for multiple paper forms. This extension aims to further evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of automating these processes.
CBP regulations typically require the submission of arrival, entrance, and clearance data on paper forms. The test seeks to streamline these submissions electronically, reducing paperwork and improving efficiency. The extension will help CBP assess the potential for permanent implementation of this automated system.
