The federal government has registered a legislative instrument to suspend the commercial broadcasting tax (CBT) for one year, from June 9, 2025, to June 8, 2026.

The Commercial Broadcasting (Tax) Amendment (Transmitter Licence Tax Rebate) Rules 2025 implements the one-year suspension by means of a 100% rebate for all commercial television and radio broadcasters, effectively reducing the CBT liabilities to zero.
