Thailand has officially signed its first free trade agreement with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), which includes Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.

Negotiations for this agreement began in October 2005. The free trade agreement will allow the majority of goods originating from Thailand to benefit from preferential tariff treatment when imported into these EFTA countries, with many goods benefitting from a 0% import duty rate.

The agreement will undergo public hearings and requires parliamentary endorsement and regulatory adjustments before ratification, which is expected within one year.
