The IRS yesterday announced that Melanie Krause will become the acting IRS Commissioner following Doug O’Donnell's retirement. O’Donnell, who has served as acting Commissioner since January, will retire on February 28, 2025. Krause, currently the IRS Chief Operating Officer, will move into the deputy Commissioner role and serve as the acting Commissioner of the IRS. Read the IRS release (February 25, 2025)

President Trump in January 2025 formally announced his nomination of Billy Long, who served as the U.S. representative for Missouri's 7th congressional district from 2011 to 2023, to serve as IRS Commissioner for the remainder of the term expiring November 12, 2027.
