Daniel Werfel resigns as IRS Commissioner, Trump formally nominates William Long to replace him

Daniel Werfel resigned as the IRS Commissioner effective yesterday. Doug O'Donnell, the current Deputy Commissioner, will serve as the Acting Commissioner until a nominee is confirmed.

In addition, President Trump yesterday formally announced his nomination of William Long, who served as the U.S. representative for Missouri's 7th congressional district from 2011 to 2023, to serve as IRS Commissioner for the remainder of Werfel’s term expiring November 12, 2027.
