The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) today released a notice determining that China's targeting of the maritime, logistics, and shipbuilding sectors for dominance is actionable under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974.

This determination follows a Section 301 petition filed on March 12, 2024, by five labor unions, alleging that China's policies in these sectors are unreasonable and discriminatory, providing unfair advantages and threatening U.S. commerce. The USTR initiated an investigation on April 17, 2024, which included public comments and a hearing. Read TradeNewsFlash

The investigation concluded that China's actions burden or restrict U.S. commerce, warranting responsive action. Further proceedings will determine the specific actions to be taken.
