Investigation into Nicaragua's acts, policies, and practices concerning labor rights, human rights, and the rule of law
The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) today announced the initiation of a Section 301 investigation into Nicaragua's acts, policies, and practices concerning labor rights, human rights, and the rule of law.
According to the USTR release, this investigation is the first under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 to investigate acts, policies, and practices that may violate labor rights, human rights, and dismantle the rule of law that may burden U.S. commerce
Numerous reports from the U.S. government, the United Nations, and other international bodies have documented violations by the Ortega-Murillo regime in Nicaragua, including politically motivated arrests, repression of freedoms, and forced labor. The USTR aims to address these issues to ensure fair treatment for U.S. companies and workers.
