IRS provides tax relief to taxpayers affected by floods in Juneau, Alaska

The IRS today announced disaster tax relief for individuals and businesses affected by the flooding in the Juneau area of Alaska, which began on August 5, 2024.

The relief announced in the IRS release—IR-2024-282 (October 25, 2024):

  • Applies to any area designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), currently including the City and Borough of Juneau.
  • Postpones to May 1, 2025, various tax filing and payment deadlines that occurred starting on August 5, 2024, and ending on May 1, 2025, including:
    • 2024 individual or business tax returns
    • 2023 federal returns with valid extensions
    • 2024 quarterly estimated income tax payments
    • Quarterly payroll and excise tax returns

Penalties for failing to make payroll and excise tax deposits due on or after August 5, 2024, and before August 20, 2024, will be abated if the deposits were made by August 20, 2024.
