The best in women's golf set to play in 10th annual Championship
KPMG is proud to celebrate 10 years as title sponsor of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship this week at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, WA. Throughout the last decade, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship platform has elevated women’s golf in several different areas, most notably by raising the purses year over year, bringing the Championship to some of the country’s most prestigious golf courses and airing the Championship on NBC network television.
"I take a lot of pride in seeing how far this Championship has come, from taking this little idea and turning it into this big major," said Stacy Lewis, LPGA Tour professional and KPMG ambassador. "I think you can see the ripple effect of the KPMG Women's PGA Championship in over half of our (LPGA Tour) tournaments. This Championship continues to give back and continues to push our tour forward."
Sahalee Country Club played host to the 2016 KPMG Women's PGA Championship, where then-18-year-old Brooke Henderson claimed her first major championship in a thrilling playoff win over Lydia Ko. Sahalee steps back into the spotlight this week as 156 of the best in the women's game vie for the top prize at the season's third major. With its tight fairways and towering pines, Sahalee is steeped in Pacific Northwest character and and will provide a stern test of golf in its second go-round with the KPMG Women's PGA.
"It's a really cool spot," Lewis said of Sahalee. "You have to hit it straight. It has some tough rough, and you never know what you're going to get weather-wise. It's a golf course where the best players are going to rise to the top."
First round coverage begins Thursday, June 20 and continues throughout the weekend on NBC, Golf Channel and Peacock. Tune in and catch all the action!
