NEW YORK, May 18, 2023 — KPMG LLP – the U.S. audit, tax, and advisory firm – successfully debuted its advanced 5G-enabled smart warehouse during a VIP demonstration Sponsored by OUSD R&E, FutureG & 5G, Accelerate Use program and jointly hosted by the Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic (NIWC-LANT) and the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC). The live demonstration, held at the Marine Corps Logistics Command in Albany, GA, took place a year after KPMG was selected by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) as the sole prototype application developer to create a system aimed at transforming USMC logistical operations.
“This OUSD R&E sponsored effort is a unique opportunity to apply the latest 5G technologies to a traditional but mission critical support area for our warfighters. Warehousing and logistics operations is the lifeline for the Marine’s Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations. The private 5G Infrastructure utilizing federally owned spectrum and the applications designed to work within the 5G ecosystem in this demonstration highlighted the best of US industries response to the warfighters needs. These 5G applications deliver velocity, accountability, and readiness to the critical supply chain of the war-fighter.” said the prototype’s program manager, John Larson, Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic.
The state-of-the-art 5G smart warehouse solutions will serve as an essential step on the road to modernizing USMC logistical operations. The system has the capability of integrating into other service and federal agencies as defined by their logistical operations. The 5G-enabled Internet of Things (IoT) applications were demonstrated in front of a diverse audience of DoD and military leaders, senior civilian executives, and legislators and their staff.
The KPMG solution is a comprehensive approach to integration of 5G technology and a deployment of advanced warehouse transformation capability for improved workforce efficiency including:
“Connectivity, trust and efficiency are at the heart of a modern government and the demonstration of our comprehensive 5G solution illustrates how we’re inching closer to the government of the future,” said Al Morales, Federal Advisory Principal.
“Logistics and supply chain challenges have come to the forefront in recent years,” said Chad Jones, KPMG Federal Advisory Managing Director. “Our solution narrows the digital divide as warehousing and logistical operations continue to be critical to ensuring the warfighter can perform their mission."
