Jim joined KPMG in 1998 in the Mergers & Acquisitions Tax practice. While located in the Midwest region, Jim has managed a team of approximately 25 M&A tax professionals. He focuses on the taxation of transactions involving U.S. and foreign corporations, including formation of corporate ventures, reorganizations and other restructurings of corporate enterprises, corporate distributions and liquidations, and corporate acquisitions and dispositions.

Recent representative projects include:

  • Advising on the restructuring of a foreign-owned multinational corporation’s European business operations
  •  Managing Latin American and United States Tax structuring and due diligence services for a potential Billion dollar carve-out acquisition
  • Obtaining an Internal Revenue Service ruling on an internal reorganization transaction involving multiple section 355 transactions in Europe, Asia and the United States

In addition, Jim advises various clients on the tax issues associated with distressed and bankrupt debt restructurings, net operating loss limitations, consolidated return attribution reduction requirements, and discharge of indebtedness income.
