Diana Smith supports engagement teams across the KPMG tax practice, focusing primarily on corporate income and franchise taxes for clients in the financial, manufacturing, and service industries.
Diana joined KPMG in 2008, where she worked with both the federal and state and local tax teams in the Tysons Corner, Virginia office. In 2023, Diana joined the Washington National Tax – SALT team. During her time at KPMG, Diana has assisted clients with compliance, provision, and controversy for state and local income tax matters, including income tax apportionment methodology, nexus, federal conformity, and combined/unitary filing methods. In her role as part of KPMG’s WNT – SALT practice, Diana develops and supports the firm’s technology tools used by KPMG professionals for income/franchise tax compliance. Diana also develops and reviews training materials and facilitates SALT training for professionals at all levels of the firm. Currently, Diana serves as the firm’s State Tax Resource Network (STRN) income/franchise tax specialist for Maryland and Virginia and leads the SALT Compliance Network, a nationwide group of KPMG professionals dedicated to sharing knowledge and best practices for state and local income/franchise tax compliance.
Diana earned both a Masters of Accountancy – Tax and a BS degree in Accounting from Brigham Young University. She is currently a licensed CPA in both the District of Columbia and Virginia. Since 2021, Diana has served as a member of the Virginia Society of CPAs’ tax committee.
