Patrick is a life insurance actuary specialising in financial reporting (including IFRS17), transformation and M&A. He has a strong record leading large cross-functional teams, with diverse experience working for UK, Asian and international insurers.
Professional and industry experience
- Patrick has led and supported actuarial workstreams on many finance transformation programmes, including assessing the impact of IFRS17 on operating model and working day timetable. He provided the technical actuarial guidance for an ambitious finance transformation programme, developing a multi-basis ledger and introducing innovative solutions to insurance reporting. He previously led the Asian workstream on a global actuarial transformation program, addressing the end-to-end valuation process including data, models and reporting, with the objectives of improving quality, speed and efficiency.
- Patrick leads the actuarial support on the audit of a FTSE100 listed UK life insurer, addressing best estimate and economic assumption setting, models and results for IFRS and Solvency II disclosures.
- Patrick currently leads the KPMG team supporting a global IFRS17 implementation, guiding model development, global roll-out and technical design. Patrick also acts as an SME on a number of additional IFRS17 implementations, in particular covering actuarial methodology, design and process.
- He led the IFRS17 impact assessment for a global insurer, helping development of methodology and leading the production of financial impact assessment tools. He also led the financial impact assessment for a large UK insurer, providing insight on the impact of IFRS17 on financials, systems and processes. He chairs KPMG’s IFRS17 global actuarial models and tools working group.
- Patrick ran KPMG’s support on implementation of Embedded Value reporting across the EMEA region for a global insurer, managing a team of thirty actuaries across multiple workstreams, as well as providing technical guidance on methodology and process development.
- Patrick has led the actuarial workstream on several life office acquisitions, including cross-border transactions. This has included due diligence, financial modelling, analysis of the capital impact and investor reporting, as well representing KPMG and clients in management discussions.
- Patrick previously spent a number of years with KPMG China serving clients throughout Asia-Pacific. He managed the Asian Regional actuarial audit assist for one of our largest insurance clients, including IFRS, local statutory and EEV reporting; leading work within a number of Asian business units and managing the Regional relationship. This included a significant role challenging methodology and best estimate assumption setting.
