Managing Director, Tax
Managing Director in KPMG’s strategic Corporate Tax practice with over fourteen years of experience in tax planning, compliance, structuring and consulting. In addition, Michael specializes in global, federal, and state tax credits & incentives, including research & development credits and energy credits that have been modified, enhanced, and/or created through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and CHIPs legislation. Michael has consulted with clients on various tax issues, including tax compliance, financial reporting, tax credits & incentives (i.e., energy tax credits research tax credits, etc.), and tax accounting methods planning. Michael has experience across a wide range of industries including Renewables, Oil & Gas, Industrial manufacturers, Automotive, Life Sciences and Technology.
Michael’s experience includes assisting clients with tax technical issues, identification of risk areas, multiyear tax return reviews, filing of 3115s, defense of tax return positions during examinations, and automation of various clients’ information-gathering processes.
Michael has also been involved in an operational tax review of company’s Corporate Sustainability Programs and Strategies to identify and obtain various incentives for energy and sustainability related to investments in the form of grants, investment tax and/or other tax credits, and current deductions.
Michael has also assisted companies (ranging from mid-market to fortune 100) with the preparation and review of their tax provision calculation and related supporting documentation on a quarterly and year-end basis. In addition, Michael has worked on various accounting methods reviews within the financial services sector as well as assisted with the IRS defense of such claims.
Michael is a frequent speaker at Tax Executive Institute (TEI) events, KPMG and Client sponsored tax panels, Fordham University recruiting events, various Renewable Energy forums / events.
Michael has been involved with volunteer groups such as KPMG’s Family for Literacy and is a committee member of KPMG’s HLN network group. In addition, Michael is actively involved in KPMG’s recruiting services and has regularly attended recruiting events at Fordham University, Baruch College, Lehigh, UT Austin and Texas A&M. Michael is the lead MD recruiter on-campus for Fordham University.
