Brian Morrissey

Brian is a qualified actuary with 25 years experience. He heads up KPMG’s actuarial practice in Ireland which has a team of 24 actuaries working with him focusing on life and non life insurance and reinsurance markets, both domestically and internationally and the corporate pensions sector. Brian is Head of Insurance and acts as the sector lead on all of the Firms audit, tax and advisory engagements. He has previously worked with KPMG in the UK and a regional role for KPMG out of Hong Kong. During his time overseas, he gained significant exposure to the international insurance and reinsurance markets.

Experience

• He has previously worked with KPMG in the UK and a regional role for KPMG out of Hong  Kong (18 months 2001/02) establishing KPMG’s Asian actuarial practice. During his time  overseas, he gained significant exposure to the international insurance markets and the  range of products sold in these markets.
• He has carried out some big assignments in the Irish market including acting as Finance  Director to an international life company for a period of 5 months, as Head of Actuarial to a  life entity with local/ international operations as part of a transition to a new owner for a 4  month period.
• He has acted as Independent Actuary on a number of expert opinions required by life  insurance and reinsurance companies. He has performed a skilled persons review on the  Appointed Actuary of Variable Annuity company and many peer reviews on a range of  technical matters.
• He holds a number of statutory roles including Actuarial Function in Ireland/ Malta,  Appointed Actuary in Isle of Man and Approved Actuary in Bermuda to a number of regulated  life (re)insurance companies.
• He is involved with KPMG International’s initiatives in relation to IFRS and Solvency II.
• He sits on Council of Society of Actuaries in Ireland and is a member of various sub  committees of the Society and is the Society's representative on the Insurance Accounting  subcommittee of the International Actuarial Association.
