Patrick is a Managing Director in KPMG’s State and Local Tax practice in Seattle. In his seventeen years of service at KPMG, he has provided a broad range of state and local indirect tax services to clients in many industries. Prior to joining KPMG, he filled various management positions in the healthcare industry, with health plans in California and Washington. With that experience, Patrick focuses his time and talents on serving many clients in the healthcare and non-profit sector. Patrick is a leader of KPMG’s National State and Local Tax Healthcare team and a member of KPMG’s indirect tax leadership.
Professional and Industry Experience
Patrick’s experience includes:
- Working nationally to coordinate the efforts of KMPG state tax professionals in service to non-profit and for-profit hospitals, health plans and medical provider groups, among other clients
- Managing large, multi-disciplinary teams in carrying out multi-state reverse audits to achieve refunds and deferrals of state and local sales and use taxes
- Providing planning and consulting services and conducting Washington State tax reviews and refund analysis for multiple tax types including state and local B&O tax, sales and use tax, and property tax
- Representing clients with voluntary disclosures, audit defense, managed audits and state ruling requests
- Proven success in identifying and securing tax incentives for clients
- Providing advice and consultation to universities related to state taxation of income from unrelated businesses
