Kurt is the national co-leader of the Research Credit Services practice at KPMG and currently based in Los Angeles, California.

Since joining KPMG in 2006, Kurt’s technical experience has assisted clients in documenting and securing tax benefits across a multiple tax incentives and industries. Kurt’s leadership and management approach emphasizes quality, defensibility, and collaboration that balances maximizing tax benefits while minimizing risk and disruption to company personnel.

Kurt successfully completed a Washington National Tax (WNT) rotation where Kurt performed technical reviews of deliverables for the national practice, developed implementation materials for engagement teams, and provided thought-leadership through published articles, external webcasts, and presentations and trainings for continuing professional education credits.

Professional and Industry Experience

Kurt has significant experience in providing tax consulting services to a wide variety of clients ranging from start-up companies to the Fortune 500. Additionally, Kurt’s project experience includes:

  • Performing all quantitative and qualitative aspects of tax incentives;
  • Conducting interviews with technical company personnel to identify qualified activities and capture related expenses;
  • Drafting deliverables and technical narratives ready for audit; and
  • Assisting clients with the defense of credits during federal and state audit audits, including IDR response, examination strategy, and appeals support.
  • Integrating tax savings strategies with accounting considerations, including ASC 740 implications and uncertain tax positions.

Kurt provides tax consulting services on a wide range of areas including the Research and Development Tax Credit, Orphan Drug Credit, R&D Expense Capitalization, Income Recognition, Expense Recognition, Meals and Entertainment, Inventories, and the deduction for Foreign Derived Intangible Income. Kurt has served companies in manufacturing, aerospace and defense, life sciences, gaming, media and entertainment, retail, and financial services.
