Catherine A. Fitzpatrick

Catherine is a Partner in the Methods group for the KPMG Washington National Tax practice. She specializes in tax accounting methods and periods, including the areas of capitalization under sections 263(a) and 263A, timing of income and deductions, inventories, and depreciation.

Cathy joined KPMG in 1997 as a manager in the Philadelphia office’s Federal Tax practice, where she was responsible for managing large tax compliance and consulting engagements for a diverse client base that included both private and public companies in various industries. She joined the Washington National Tax practice in 2001. Prior to joining KPMG, Cathy spent two years at a regional accounting firm, where she provided a variety of accounting, auditing, tax and advisory services to small businesses, and three years in the Federal Tax practice of another Big Four accounting firm.

Cathy advises KPMG partners and professionals, and provides tax consulting services to clients, serving on major engagements for clients in multiple industries, including telecommunications, manufacturing, healthcare, distribution, retail, technology, real estate development, and public utilities. She also represents clients before the IRS with respect to requests for private letter rulings, accounting method changes, and changes in accounting period.

Cathy has taught and developed national KPMG continuing professional education courses and has authored articles on tax accounting issues and depreciation for various publications, including the Journal of Taxation and The Tax Adviser.

Cathy, a certified public accountant in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Pennsylvania, is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants. She has a BS degree and an MS degree in taxation from Villanova University.
