Matthew W. Busta

Matt is a Partner in the Passthroughs group for the KPMG Washington National Tax practice. He previously spent over four years serving clients in the KPMG Business Tax Services practices in Chicago and Minneapolis.
As a member of the Passthroughs group, Matt assists partnership clients throughout the firm and has a particular focus on issues relevant to private equity funds, hedge funds, and operating partnerships. He frequently analyzes tax technical issues in partnership transactions, works with client delivery teams and clients to develop complex allocation templates, and writes memorandums and opinions on partnership issues.
Matt is a frequent instructor at trainings inside the firm and externally to clients. He has also written articles for publication within the firm and externally. Matt is an editorial advisor for The Tax Adviser and a former member of the AICPA Partnership Technical Resource Panel.
Matt has been involved in the development of KPMG’s passthrough technology, notably Asset Management Platform. He participated in focus groups from the product’s beginning stages and consulted on tax technical issues throughout the product’s development.
The Passthroughs group is responsible for providing insight to KPMG professionals and clients regarding the federal taxation of partnerships, real estate investment trusts, and S corporations across all major industries. In addition, the Passthroughs group advises in specialty areas such as like-kind exchanges, oil and gas, leasing, and excise taxes. Client services include transaction structuring, the issuance of opinions, and requesting private letter rulings.
