David A. Brown
Executive Director, KPMG Board Leadership Center
David A. Brown is executive director of the KPMG Board Leadership Center (BLC), overseeing the center’s programing and thought leadership. David joined the KPMG Audit Committee Institute (which is now part of the BLC) in 2003, focusing on the development of thought leadership in areas of audit committee oversight and broader corporate governance practices.
He has written and co-authored papers and articles on a range of issues shaping audit committee and board agendas—including oversight of strategy and risk, the impact of globalization and emerging technologies, ESG and the shift to stakeholder capitalism, and the role of the independent lead director. David also supports the development and delivery of the BLC educational programs for directors—including the KPMG national Director Roundtable Series, Quarterly Webcasts, and Annual Board Leadership Conference—and has moderated roundtable discussions and presented on webcasts. He has supported the expansion and collaboration of KPMG Board Leadership Centers across more than 20 KPMG member firms worldwide.
David joined KPMG LLP (U.S.) in 1998, serving in various thought leadership and communications roles supporting the firm’s senior leadership and Audit, Tax, and Advisory practices. Prior to joining KPMG LLP, David was a journalist, a policy analyst for the New Jersey State Legislature, and a speechwriter and press spokesperson in the administration of New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman. David is a graduate of Drew University, where he studied political science.
