Jay leads the KPMG US Forest Products practice and is a Tax partner in the firm’s Portland Business Tax Services practice, with more than 28 years of professional business tax experience.  

Jay’s forest products experience includes tax planning, tax structuring, entity taxation compliance and accounting for income taxes. He works with partnerships, C-Corporations, S-Corporations, REITs and individuals. His experience includes consulting, structuring and compliance for federal, state, and local tax planning.

Jay serves as the lead tax partner on forest products clients including many family held forest products clients as well as timber-fund structures and manufacturing companies including both public and private companies. He assists these companies with tax planning related to various business activities including planning associated with family succession, FIRPTA/ECI, acquisition and disposition of entities and assets, as well as accounting methods, and writing two tax opinions regarding timber REIT issues. Jay also spends significant time working with private equity held, closely held business and foreign inbound owned entities.
